So with that said, let’s jump right into the action…

Let’s face it, being a dad is tough. Between work, family, and other responsibilities, finding time to work out and stay fit can be a challenge. But that shouldn’t be an excuse for you to settle for a dad bod.

The good news is, with a little bit of effort and the right mindset, you can overcome any obstacle on your fitness journey and achieve your health and wellness goals.

One of the biggest obstacles dads face when it comes to fitness is lack of time. Between work, family, and other responsibilities, finding time to work out can be difficult at best and impossible at worst.

But here’s the thing, you don’t need a lot of time to stay fit. Even a 20-30 minute workout can make a huge difference. The key is to make it a priority and schedule it into your day.

Literally, grab your phone or whatever you use as a calendar, sit down with it, and think to yourself… “Where can I fit in 20-30 minutes worth of activity?”

That’s it! Think about it, give it some thought, and then schedule it.

And here’s another little tip… it doesn’t have to be all at the same time.

There are days when I take multiple 5 or 10 minute workout breaks throughout the day. These breaks add up to a full 30 minutes or more but the key is to get the total amount into your day.

In fact, depending on who you talk to and which school of thought they believe in, you may find that shorter workouts that are spread throughout the day is what they’re recommending.

So think about that… you can do it!

But the bottom line is that you should aim to get at least 20-30 minutes of activity into your day.

Another obstacle (we all struggle with) is lack of motivation. And I say “we all struggle with it” because let’s face it… Dad’s aren’t the only ones who find it hard to muster up the energy and motivation to get into action.

Let’s be honest, sometimes it’s hard to find the motivation to work out, especially after a long day at work or dealing with the kids. But here’s a little secret for you, motivation is not something that just comes to you.

You have to create it.

One way to do that is to find a workout buddy or accountability partner. This could be your spouse, a friend, or even an online community. Having someone to hold you accountable and cheer you on can make all the difference when it comes to motivation.

And actually… Just last week, we had a friend fly in from the East Coast and so needless to say, our diets and workout routines totally went out the window for the week as we hosted our friend.

But no sooner did she leave, we had to get back on it. And it was hard, to say the least. It was difficult to get motivated and get back into the swing of things and here’s where the story gets better…

… so it was Sunday night about 9:10…9:15 PM and I walked over to my wife and say “Hey, are we walking tonight?”

Now in my head, I was telling myself “Okay, I’m going to let her make the decision as to whether or not we get moving today.” … Like I had already checked out and told myself “We’re not doing anything” but I didn’t want to be the one to make that decision and I was going to be like “Oh well, I was gonna work out but she didn’t want to, so… there you go”

And it’s funny because as I looked at her, I think she had the same idea that I did but the simple fact of me bringing it up and verbalizing it and her not wanting to be the one that said “Nah, let’s chill tonight” … I think something inside her said “I’m tired. I want to chill. But now I’ve been put on the spot and I don’t want to let him down.”

Because instead of us not going out for our walk, what happened was that we both kinda looked at each other and said “Yeah, I’m up for it” even though we were both dead tired.

That’s the power of accountability. When you know for a fact that you’re tired and you’re telling yourself that you’re tired and that you can’t make it or whatever story you’re telling yourself… sometimes, just having that other person there to ask “Hey, are we working out?” changes everything.

Your body may not want to go but then your mind overrides it and says “I know you don’t feel like it but you have to make it happen. Let’s do this.”
